PURPOSE:To surely prevent trouble due to misfiring of a burner, by avoiding starting of operation of the burner until the temperature of engine cooling water exceeds a predetermined value even though a predetermined time elapses from the starting of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A control device 43 judges upon whether the regeneration of a trap 34 is necessary or not in accordance with the inlet pressure value VR1 of the trap 34 and the outlet pressure value VR2 of the same, and actuates a trap regenerating burner 35 when the judging is made such that the regeneration of the trap 34 is necessary. A water temperature sensor 51 detects the temperature of engine cooling water, and a timer starts its operation by a turning on signal from an engine starting switch 50 and counts the elapse time from the starting point of the engine. The control device 43 maintains the burner 35 in its rest condition other than the case that the temperature of cooling water is higher than a predetermined value and the elapse of time from the starting of the engine exceeds a predetermined value.
