In a method and apparatus for measuring the course of development over time of physicochemical and biological phenomena by means of ultrasound, a bar 3 is immersed in the milieu(4) to be analyzed, in which bar ultrasound 2 is transmitted in such a manner that secondary echoes F2, F3, which are produced by numerous reflections from the side surface of the bar in contact with the environment, can be picked up again. One of the secondary echoes F2 is selected and the amplitude of the echo in question is recorded as a function of time. This represents the course of development of the analyzed milieu, in particular the setting of a concrete mass or polymerization of a plastic. IMAGE
