In the handling of sacks the stretched out mouth (11) of the filled sack (10) is rolled at least one and a half turns about a rigidifying strip (12) and is fixed in the rolled-up state about this strip eg by stapling. The rolled-up mouth is passed down into an upwardly- open groove (17) in a lifting device (15) preferably a U-profile. The groove (17) is of but slightly greater width than the thickness of the rolled-up mouth (11) so that this is locked in the groove (17) on lifting of the sack by means of the lifting device. IMAGE
