Heat exchanger element repair - uses spirally finned tube as circulation supporter after removal of leaky tube

The method is used for repairing heat exchangers which have developed a leak in one of their heating elements tubes. The method proposes to seal off both ends of the leaky tube are sealed to allow it to be cut off near the tube plates for removal. Instead of the missing tube an element of similar shape, i.e. either a tube or a rod provided with a spirally wound fin. When fitted, this element acts now as a circulation supporting element and improves the uniformity of temp. of the medium flowing along the outside surfaces of the heating element tubes, preventing temp. differences which could lead to damaging stresses on the other tube connections.
