Centrifuge for sepg. a gas from a liq. esp. oil from natural gas, has (a) a vertical mantle formed by a cylindrical wall, a top wall and a bottom; (b) partitions forming 3 chambers - a 1st bottom chamber sepd. from a 2nd middle chamber by a 1st bulkhead, and a 3rd topmost chamber sepd. from the 2nd chamber by a 2nd bulkhead; (c) an inlet pipe entering the 1st chamber close to the 1st bulkhead, through which a mixt. of fluid and gas is fed and caused to flow tangentially in the 1st chamber; (d) means of draining away sepd. fluid from the bottom of the 1st chamber; (e) a tube running axially through the bulkheads to which it is sealed, and formed in 2 parts with their ends close to each other in the 2nd chamber, leaving a narrow slot in the wall of the pipe; (f) means of utilising the flow of the mixt. to create a zone of low pressure in the 2nd chamber; (g) a lead inside the cylindrical mantle connecting the low pressure zone to the 3rd chamber; and (h) means of removing the gas from the 3rd chamber through a mist separator. The installation is capable of handling much larger quantities of fluid than known machines. From the mixt. fed in under pressure, the liq. can be drained off below whilst gas, free from liq. is delivered at the upper end.
