High-boiling by-prods. obtd. in m-diisopropylbenzene dihydroperoxide acid dissociation are thermally cracked, to recover additional resorcinol, in the presence of, by wt. w.r.t. high-boiling by prods., pref. 7 (esp. 12) wt.% aromatic ketone of formula (I). In (I) R1 are H, 1-6C alkyl, OH, Ac ethyl or Cl; R2 is 1-6C alkyl, cyclohexyl or Ph and n is 1-3. Addn. of (I) reduces reaction mixt. viscosity in cracking reactor and inhibits coking and deposition or adhesion of insol. solids on reactor surfaces.
