INTENSE TRANSIENT MAGNETIC FIELD GENERATIONBY LASER-PLASMAAbstract of the DisclosureIn a laser system, the return current of a laser gen-erated plasma is conducted near a target to subject thattarget to the magnetic field thereof. In alternate embod-iments the target may be either a small non-fusion objectfor testing under the magnetic field or a laser-fusionpellet. In the laser-fusion embodiment, the laser-fusionpellet is irradiated during the return current flow andthe intense transient magnetic field is used to controlthe hot electrons thereof to hinder them from striking andheating the core of the irradiated laser-fusion pellet.
