Pharmaceutical compositions having a strong anthelmintic activity and comprising I) the levamisole of formula (2) and IIa) of the substituted benzimidazole carbamates of formula (3), where R1 represents a heterocyclic ring with 5 or 6 members or a radical -NHCO2R2, where R2 represents alkyl; R3 represents an alkyl, or a radical -NHCO2R2 or a radical -XR4, where X represents O, CO, S, SO, SO2-O- or -O-SO2- and R4 represents a hydrocarbon group or an aryl substituted by groups alkoxy, allogens or alkyls which are in turn substituted by at least one allogene atom, provided that when R1 is in position 5 and R1 represents -NHCO2CH3 and X represents CO, R4 does not represent a phenyl and under the condition additional that at least one of R1 and R3 must represent the alkyl -NHCO2 radical, (IIb) of the prodrugs or (IIc) of the non-toxic acid addition salts of these substituted benzimidazole carbamates or of the prodrugs . The invention also relates to a dosing unit for such a composition and to a method for treating helminthiasis in animals by administering to them an effective amount of such a composition.
