The invention relates to mixtures of water-soluble synthetic anionic polymers consisting of at least 80% by weight of acrylamide and / or (meth) acrylamide and sizing agents based on wholly or partly saponified natural resins and the use of such mixtures in the manufacture of paper and cardboard for reduction the absorbency and improvement of the dry strength of these products.
