A pyroelectric detector essentially comprises an undoped or doped thin lead germanate layer on a base, the lead germanate layer being doped, in particular, with silicon or rare earths or elements of main group III. The cathode sputtering method is proposed as the process for coating suitable bases such as Al2O3 and semiconductors which can be used for this purpose with the thin pyroelectric layer.
