In a notchback limousine with a tailgate and a weight compensation device, in particular a pneumatic spring, acting thereon, it is proposed to arranged the pneumatic spring in a vehicle body pillar which laterally bounds the rear window and an adjacent side window. Preferably, a water container which completely surrounds the hinge lever of the tailgate when the tailgate is closed adjoins the vehicle body pillar. By means of these measures, while simultaneously achieving a considerable gain in space, it is ensured that the hinge levers do not damage items of luggage in the luggage compartment of the vehicle when the tailgate is closed.
