Compsn. for increasing the sugar content of grapes and pineapples contains as active ingredient 5-chloroindazole-3-acetic acid or its esters of formula (I) (R = H or lower alkyl, pref. methyl, propyl or esp. ethyl). The compsns. are formulated as emulsifiable concentrates or wettable powders and applied to the plants as sprays contg. 50-300 ppm (I), pref. 15-50 days before harvesting.
