Matrix display with facility for changing display cell size - uses electrode grid with enlarged lands on one side facing conventional electrode strips with facility to address groups of electrodes

The matrix display comprises: (a) a display panel with an electric field sensitive layer between a row and column grid of electrodes; and (b) a control circuit which applies a signal to each of row and column electrodes to activate a point in the display. Two display modes are available, producing displays of differing sizes. The control circuit has a mode selection facility which subdivides the electrodes into groups, with each group associated with a control signal which is applied to each electrode of the group. The first group of electrodes are formed from juxtaposed conductive strips, while the second group are formed from a grid of conductive lands electrically interconnected and each land facing two strips of the first electrode pair, permitting selection of differing cell sizes for the display.
