Process for manufacturing a separator which has the configuration of a nondevelopable surface, for an electrochemical generator or electrolyser, characterised in that an end part of a component or form which has an external surface corresponding to the surface to be imparted to the separator is immersed in a solution of a polymer chosen from the group of polyvinyl alcohol, polyoxyethylene, polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol and products of their polycondensation (polymers of high molecular weight), the said end part of the form is withdrawn from the said solution, the layer of solution deposited on the said part of the form is made consistent and the consistent layer which constitutes the separator is separated from the said part of the form. Another subject of the invention is a separator obtained by the abovementioned process and an electrochemical generator or an electrolyser endowed with at least one such separator.
