Copper heptonate complexes for treating trace element deficiency

Copper heptonate complexes and compositions comprising the complexes are provided for use in treating copper deficiency in animals such as by raising blood-copper status in cattle or preferably sheep. The complexes may be made by reacting soluble copper salts with, for example, sodium heptonates. Preferred administration is by intramuscular injection of unit dose containing up to 25 mg of copper. A stabiliser may be present to counter deposition of insoluble cuprous salts.
