PURPOSE:To simplify the apparatus, by applying a magnetic field to a Moessbauer ray source to vary the energy of gamma rays by changing the magnetic field. CONSTITUTION:A Moessbauer ray source 1 for radiating gamma rays (a) is set in a magnetic field formed with a superconductive electromagnet 2. This ray source 1 receives a magnetic field formed with the electric magnet 2 while being cooled down to the liquid helium temperature. An exciting current source 3 amplify a cyclic function signal generated from a function generator 4 over the current to feed an exciting current to the electromagnet 2. gamma rays (a) radiated from the ray source 1 and transmitted through a sample 5 are converted into a pulse-like electric signal and amplified 7 with a proportional counter 6 and then, inputted into a multi-channel pulse height analyzer (MCA)8. The MCA8 counts the pulse signal inputted at each channel based on a cycle signal Ss generating each time the cycle of the cyclic function signal generated 4 changes. So to speak, photons of the gamma rays transmitted through the sample 5 are counted at each channel corresponding to the intensity of the magnetic field applied to the ray source 1.
