ELECTRON BEAM WELDING METHOD FOR TEMPERED EXTRA-HIGH TENSILE STEEL

PURPOSE:To make possible the assurance of the strength in a weld zone which compares favorably with the strength of base metals by subjecting the part to be welded of extra-high tensile steels to =2 passes of welding so as to decrease gradually the depth of penetration until welding is completed. CONSTITUTION:The base metals 1 of the tempered extra-high tensile steels rating80-120kg/mm2 class 0.2% yield point value are welded through the thickness thereof by an electron beam 2 in the 1st pass 31. The base metals are successively welded to the depth of about 1/2-3/4 the thickness in the 2nd pass 32. The base metals are welded to the depth of about 1/4-1/2 the thickness in the 3rd pass 33 in succession thereto. The metals are finally welded to the depth of about =1/4 the thickness in the 4th pass 34. The weld zone subjected to the welding in the above-mentioned manner is assured to have the 0.2% yield point which compares favorably with the yield point of the base metals and therefore the above-mentioned method is effectively utilized for improving the quality of the welded product of the tempered extra-high tensile materials.
