PURPOSE:To eliminate an analysis error due to sulfur and phosphorus when burning a chlorine-contained sample under an atmosphere of oxygen and analyzing the resulting chlorine by minute coulometric titration, by providing a scrubber pipe filled with cupric oxide in a combustion furnace. The chlorine is caused to react with silver ions in an electrolyte in the titration cell 15. The decrease in the concentration of the silver ions is prevented by electrolysis. The quantity of consumed electricity is measured to determine the quantity of the chlorine.
