PURPOSE:To prevent generation of discharge and restrain reduction in energy efficiency by a method wherein a substance which causes discharge in the material to be processed is exposed to a microwave to thereby calcinate it while the substance is kept so as not to be exposed on the surface of the material for a long time. CONSTITUTION:A material 7 to be processed is introduced from a supply port 3 into a rotary kiln 1 so that it may be heated by microwave generated by a microwave guide tube 4, and at the same time, mixed and stirred by stirring blades 2. The material to be processed is stirred and mixed at all times, and so even if carbon appears on the surface of the material the discharge cannot hold long. Therefore, reduction of the energy efficiency can be prevented. The material to be processed which has been calcinated is withdrawn from a discharge port 5.
