PREPARATION OF N-ACYLATED CHITOSAN MEMBRANE

PURPOSE:To obtain an N-acylated chitosan membrane stable to acid and alkali, having excellent solvent resistance, heat resistance, etc., and suitable for ultrafiltration membrane, etc., by immersing a membrane of chitosan (salt) in a mixture of water and alcohol having specific water-content and acylating the product in solid phase. CONSTITUTION:A chitosan membrane is immersed in a mixture of water and alcohol (e.g. methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, etc.) having a water-content of 5- 50(wt)%, preferably 30-50%, or a chitosan salt membrane is immersed in a water-alcohol mixture having a water-content of 0.5-30%, preferably 10-25%. The treated membrane is made to react with an acylation agent (e.g. acetic anhydride, propionic anhydride, etc.) to effect the solid-phase acylation reaction.
