CONTRUCTION OF AIR COOLING TYPE INTERCOOLER

PURPOSE:To improve the heat-exchanging efficiency in the heat-exchanger of an intercooler by mounting tanks, which are used as headers, in the upper and the lower positions of the intercooler, connecting them to each other by the use of vertical pipes having radiating fins, and making the full width of the nest of the pipes longer than the height thereof. CONSTITUTION:In the intercooler 30 of a supercharged engine, headers are constituted by an upper tank 60 into which water flows and a lower tanks 62 from which water is discharged, and the tanks are connected to each other by a nest 64 of heat-exchanging pipes 66 containing radiating fins 68. The width X of the nest 64 of the heat-exchanging pipes is set longer than the height Y thereof. The heat-exchanger pipes each having a small cross section can thereby be shortened and the number of the pipes be increased, hence reducing a pressure loss within the intercooler.
