Electrode plates of an electrolytic cell are spaced by insulating one piece spaces mounted on the plates, each spacer comprising a shank portion of length slightly greater than the thickness of the electrode plate, with an enlarged head portion integrally formed at each end of the shank, the head having an inner substantially planar portion to engage the outer surfaces of the electrode when assembled there with, and an outer planar surface parallel the inner surface to engage a second electrode plate to be spaced from the plate to which the spacer is attached. Used in cells for the electrolysis of NaCl etc. The separator cannot separate as prior two-part spacer did.
