PROCESS FOR PREPARING ROAD AND BUILDING BITUMENS OF HIGH ASPHALTHENE CONTENT AND WITH LOW TEMPERAURE SENSITIVITY

The prods. contg. a high proportion of asphaltenes are prepd. by oxidising at 230-300 deg.C a mixt. of appropriately selected crude distillation residues and crude fractions and/or lubricating oil extracts and/or bitumens obtd. in oil removal and/or cracker residues, the mixt. having an oil content larger than 40 wt.%, a viscosity at 100 deg.C of 90-200 sq. mm per second and an oil to (oil-resin plus asphaltene) ratio above 0.6, into a bitumen having a softening point of 70-80 deg.C, an oil to (oil-resin plus asphaltene) ratio of 0.4-0.7 and an asphaltene content of 30-40 wt.%, and mixing this bitumen with crude distn. residues and/or bitumen obtd. in oil removal, to produce a final prod. with 10-30 wt.% asphaltene content, 30-35 wt.% oil content and an oil to (oil-resin plus asphaltene) ratio of 0.4-0.7.
