The coil consists of straight antenna conductors (A3) on the surface of a former, the conductors being parallel to the axis of the cylindrical coil. The upper ends of the conductors are linked together by a toroidal conductor (r2) as are the lower ends (r1). Just within the coil under the linking conductors (r2,r1) are cylindrical cuffs (m1, m2) made of conductive material. The input signal is connected via terminals (k3) between the upper linking conductor (r2) and the upper cuff (m2). The function of the cuffs, which are both earthed, is to prevent stray self capacitive and self-inductive effects from distorting the magnetic field generated by the coil. Each antenna conductor has a length equal to half the wavelength of the frequency used.
