New antitumour agent (I) consists of a glycoprotein (A) of isoelectric point 3.5-5.5 combined with N-acetyl-D-galactosamine (B), and consists mainly of rectin. (I) has mol.wt. 30000-100000 (by gel electrophoresis) and component (A) has specific cell-fusing ability in tumour cells. Pref. (A) is prepd. from human and/or animal cell walls; particularly human cells infected with human tumour cell leukaemia virus or animal cells infected with murine leukaemia virus. (A) retained about 80-90% of its activity after 1 month storage at 4 deg,C at a concn. of about 0.001 mg/ml. A 0.00004 mg/ml soln. lost about 70% of its activity after heating for 10 min at 70 deg.C. and this soln., was most stable at about pH7.
