Prodn. of thiuram polysulphide derivs. (I) substd. by (ar)aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbyl comprises reacting appropriately substd. sec. amines (II) with CS2 and S in a solvent and in presence of an oxidising agent. Reaction is with an amine of pKa at least 8 and at 0-150 deg.C, and the oxidising agent is O2 or O2-contg. gas, used in presence of metal-contg. catalyst. - The amine:CS2:S mole ratio is 1:1-1.2:1-3 and the catalyst is 0.01-5 mmoles per mole (II). Reaction is esp. at 20-90 deg.C. The catalyst is Ce, Mn, Cu, Fe, Co, Mo or V, used as the free element, salt, oxide, complex and/or organic cpds. Pref. solvents are opt. substd. aromatic hydrocarbons and/or 1-6C alcohols, or an aq. alcohol.
