Dithiocarbamates and thiurams have been used as secondary accelerators for much of the life of the rubber industry. In today's competitive world, companies are required to work faster and more efficiently with less. This means that they must be able to cure then-rubber compounds as fast as possible without causing any defects. The chemistry associated with some of the faster accelerators tends to give them a higher cost, from either a raw material or manufacturing. Based upon current market trends, raw material prices have stabilized. Rhenogran~R Geniplex-70 has shown to have an activating affect on dithiocarbamates and thiurams in EPDM. The activation of these accelerators further increases their efficiency by shortening their cure times. Using Rhenogran~R Geniplex-70 may even allow users to switch to a more cost effective accelerator and obtain similar results. In addition, Rhenogran~R Geniplex-70 may be able to reduce the amount of harmful n-nitrosamines, creating a more environmentally friendly rubber formulation.
