DIFFRACTION CRYSTALS FOR SAGITTALLY FOCUSING X-RAYSAbstract of the DisclosureThe invention is a new type of diffraction crystal designed forsagittally focusing photons of various energies. The invention isbased on the discovery that such focusing is not obtainable with con-ventional crystals because of distortion resulting from anticlasticcurvature. The new crystal comprises a monocrystalline base having afront face contoured for sagittally focusing photons and a back faceprovided with rigid, upstanding, stiffening ribs restrictinganticlastic curvature. When mounted in a suitable bending device, thereflecting face of the crystal can be adjusted to focus photons havingany one of a range of energies.
