Promoters capable of ensuring expression in yeast of genes coding for generally heterologous polypeptides are disclosed, which consist of a DNA fragment comprised between two restriction sites and having a definite nucleotide sequence, as well as the mutants and sub-fragment thereof.;Also disclosed are vector plasmids containing said promoters, transformed yeasts comprising said plasmids, and a process for preparing polypeptides and especially a 1,4,-β-N-acetylmuramidase.
