In seaming or finishing fabric sections, with a sewing machine, the fabric workpiece is manipulated and moved through the sewing station according to the fabric contours. A band carrier moves parallel to the sewing machine carrier at a gap of 5-50mm from the sewing machine carrier, moving at a speed of 3-15% slower than the sewing machine carrier. The band carrier starts to move on the fabric workpiece near the sewing machine foot, at right angles to the stitching direction, for a short stretch of 30-70mm on the workpiece. The mechanism allows edges to be seamed round curves of a very narrow radius, without stretching or distorting the material.
