The process consists in forming a calcium alloy on a liquid metal cathode, for example of nickel, by electrolysis of calcium carbide in a molten salt bath based on calcium halides, especially calcium chloride and eutectic mixtures. Calcium of very high purity can be recovered by decomposing the alloy obtained. Graphite carbon of a high purity is recovered at the anode.
