Carbonate polymer comprised of the reaction products of: P P(i) at least one dihydric phenol;PP(ii) a carbonate precursor; andPP(iii) an optical property improving amount of at least one cyclic anhydride represented by the general formula ##STR1## wherein: X represents a divalent nonaromatic cyclic hydrocarbon radical;PPR is independently selected from monovalent hydrocarbon radicals; andPPn is a positive integer having a value of from 0 up to the number of replaceable hydrogen atoms present on X.
