The invention relates to the automation of part of the handling of animals in abattoirs. The system consists of: a sloping chute on which the bled and cleaned animal arrives, two retractable stops for positioning the animal in the chute, a double-articulated balance for lifting the rear legs, a double cutter for making an incision in the skin of the feet, and two double-articulated hooks for raising the tendons of the rear legs and attaching them to a double hook which is present and which moves off again into the general system. All these manoeuvres are computer-controlled. The invention is applicable especially to the slaughter of pigs.
