@ Foodstuffs containing sweetness inhibitors having the general formula:wherein R₇ is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C₁-C₃ alkyl, R. is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C₁-C₃ alkyl and wherein R₉ is the groupwherein R₂, R₃, R₄, R. and R₄ are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C₁-C₃ alkyl, C₁-C₃ alkoxy, C₁-C₂ hydroxyalkyl, hydroxy and COOH; and the non-toxic salts thereof. Disclosed is also a process for inhibiting the sweetness perception of a foodstuff.
