Apparatus for straightening and aligning the end (2a) of a first elongated plastic article (2) to the end (6a) of a second article (6b) to effect a butt joint of both articles and of the type comprising a movable clamping jaw (10) for maintaining the end (2a) of the first article as well as a device (12) for controlling this movable clamping jaw for straightening and aligning the end (2a) of the first article to the corresponding end (6a) of the second article, characterized in that the device (12) for controlling the movable clamping jaw comprises a system with eccentrics (60, 64) permitting the displacement of the said clamping jaw and thus of the end (2a) of article (2) along any direction, whereas a stationary clamping jaw (14) maintains in stationary position the article (2) at a certain distance (D) from the said end (2a).
