The aim of the apparatus described is to produce fresh water with a simple plant to be operated by anyone. The evaporation effect is exploited in this case. The plant is particularly suitable for setting up in karst or desert areas, in the vicinity of an ocean or other sources of water which cannot be directly utilised. After the plant has initially been installed, virtually no maintenance work will be necessary. However, from time to time the salt crusts which will form on the evaporator trough will have to be washed off. Likewise, when the plant is operated with brackish water, a cleaning of the evaporator pan from settled sludge will sometimes have to take place. Technical know-how is not necessary for this.
