PURPOSE:To obtain a high-density transfer image on a paper like region having a wide range of surface smoothness and to enable many times of printing imparting high sensitivity, high resolving power and excellent quality over a large number of times, by forming a thermal transfer recording medium by providing a heat-meltable coloring material layer on a support through an undercoat layer and containing a specific compound in said coloring material layer. CONSTITUTION:A heat-meltable coloring material layer is provided on a support through an undercoat layer and the heat-meltable substance constituting said coloring material layer made of a combination of waxes relatively low in polarity and an A-group compound high in polarity. As the waxes low in polarity, there are animal beeswax, insect was, plant carnauba wax, haze wax, mineral montan wax, ozokerite, petroleum paraffin wax etc. The A-group compound has two or more of polar groups or polar bonds in the molecule thereof or compositely contains the same and, as the polar groups, a hydroxyl group, an amino group, an imino group and a carboxyl group are designated and, as the polar bonds, an ester bond, an ether bond, an amido bond and an urethane bond are designated.
