PURPOSE:To eliminate the interruption of work, by a method wherein a sedimentation tank is divided into an upper tank and a lower tank and a partition valve is provided to the piping connecting both tanks so as to be capable of taking out an immobilizing carrier from a manhole if necessary. CONSTITUTION:A sedimentation tank is divided into an upper tank 1 and a lower tank 4, and a sluice valve 7 and a bypass valve 8 are mounted to the flow distribution cylinder 2 between the upper tank 1 and a lower tank 4. When a carrier 5 is taken out during the operation of methane fermentation, the sluice valve 7 of the flow distribution cylinder 2 is closed and the bypass valve 8 is opened and, further, the sluice valve 9 of piping 6 is closed.
