PURPOSE:To provide an attractant for the female grape borer (Xylotrechus pyrrhoderus) which is a vermin of grape, by using (2S, 3S)-alkanediol and/or (2S)-hydroxy-3-alkanone (some of which are novel) as a component. CONSTITUTION:The objective attractant for the female grape vermin contains (2S, 3S)-alkane diol of formulaI(the compound of formula II is novel) and/or (2S)-hydroxy-3-alkanone of formula III (R1 and R2 are straight or branched alkyl). The combined use of the above two compound gives higher activity than expected from the simple summation of the activity of each compound.
