PURPOSE:To achieve a most suitable control by means of a simple constitution, by computing a most suitable value of a PID control parameter on the basis of an area being surrounded with a step response curve of a static system process and with a straight line showing a setting value and on the basis of the area showing the total sum of a delay constant of the aforesaid response curve and showing an integral value up to the value which is obtained as a result of multiplying the aforesaid sum by a given value (0alpha1). CONSTITUTION:A process control system 1 is composed of a controlling part C, an operating part F ad a process P, and works so that a process output Ps will coincide with a set value SO. When finding a PID parameter of the controlling part C, a step-shaped test signal is added to the operating part FC with a switch SW connected on a side of a test signal generator TD, and a response is obtained by means of a response characteristic detector RP. The aforesaid area is found on the basis of a response curve with a characteristic area detector SC. A most suitable parameter value is further found by means of a PID parameter computer TC, and is indicated in an indicator DP.
