A means for cleaning a road, airfield or equivalent surface, comprising a brush rotating about its axis supported by supporting wheels or equivalent, said supporting wheels being adjustable in height with the aid of an adjusting means in order that the contact between the brush and the surface to be brushed will be appropriate. The adjusting means comprises a sensor in conjuction with the brush, sensing the diameter of the brush and on the basis thereof, adjusting, by a technique known in itself in the art which has been incorporated in the action means, the location of the supporting wheel relative to the axis of the brush in accordance with the information supplied by the sensor.
