摘要
In this process for cleaning the indicator electrode (11) of a titrator for the determination of water content by the K. Fischer method, a low-frequency alternating voltage (17) is applied to the two separate electrodes (5) of the indicator electrode (11) through a relay (18). The voltage must be sufficient to induce electrolysis (21) in which hydrogen is released at one electrode and iodine at the other. Both the oxidizing action of the iodine and the formation of bubbles of hydrogen have a powerful surface-active effect. The cleaning action is further increased by reversing the polarity of the electrode current one or more times, so that iodine and hydrogen are released alternately at each separate electrode (5). Adhesion of dirt to the surface of the electrode can be largely prevented by the process.
