Imides of the formula I IMAGE in which R1 and R2 independently of one another denote a hydrogen atom or methyl, R represents a (poly)oxaalkylene radical of the formula &lsqbstr& (CpH2pO &rparstr& s- &lparstr& CqH2qO &rparstr& t-CrH2r &rsqbstr& where p, q and r independently of one another = an integer from 2 to 6, s = 0 or 1 and t = 1-30, are suitable for the preparation of cross-linked polymers, in particular as viscosity enhancers in substance mixtures with other unsaturated imides.
