In a method of burning solid fossil fuels developing flue gases with a reduced sulphur content, in which the fuel particles are introduced into the furnace and the sulphur released by their combustion is bound by particles of dry lime, the invention provides for the lime particles to be linked to the fuel particles before the fuel particles are introduced into the furnace, and for the resulting dry fuel-lime substrate to be introduced into the furnace.
