A rod 7 forming part of a linkage (6, Fig. 1) restraining closure of a butterfly (1) is permitted to move by admitting air through a duct 20 into the chamber 4 defined by the rod diaphragm 5. A duct 19 leading to the duct 20 is connected to atmosphere through a restrictor (18, Fig. 1) providing slow butterfly closure and a valve 28 may open a duct 21 to atmosphere to provide normal butterfly closure.
