The method is intended for sealing the stylus point (18) of an automatic plotter (01), comprising at least one plotter head (07), at least one stylus, a seal (31) for each stylus and a seal storage station (42). Any stylus not in use has an air-tight closure seal, the seal(s) for the stylus to be activated having been moved into the station and held therein during stylus operation. After stylus operation, the stylus is re-sealed and then returned to its rest position. The change-over of the seals, or where applicable, the seal carriers, before and/or after the operation of each stylus is effected automatically.
