The composite material of the invention is flexible, impervious and heat resistant. It is composed of at least two layers 1, 2 of silica textile fabric, these layers being adhesively bonded to each other by an adhesive 3 based on alkaline silicates. In order to manufacture this product, each surface intended to be adhesively bonded is coated with adhesive and then scraped so as to distribute the adhesive uniformly and to remove the excess therefrom.
