PURPOSE:To improve driving efficiency, by coupling respective phase windings of a five phase step motor in circular then repeating the number of coupling points with a power source alternately between 3 and 4 thereby reducing the difference of torque to be produced. CONSTITUTION:Respective phase windings phi1-phi5 of a five phase step motor are coupled in circle. Coupling points 1-5 of respective phases are connected with joints (t1)-(t5) of transistors T1-T10 connected in series. Then the transistors T1-T10 are turned ON/OFF to connect the coupling points with positive or negative pole of a drive source, or connect with none of them. It is controlled such that the total number of coupling points to be connected with the positive or negative pole of the drive power source will be 4, or 3 and 4 are repeated alternately for every input pulse.
