PURPOSE:To increase the yield of pearls of good quality, by cultivating pearl oysters using pearl-culturing nuclei coated, on their surfaces, with an organic substance which is nonpoisonous to the oysters and less rejection than calcium carbonate crystals. CONSTITUTION:The nuclei for pearl culture are coated with an organic substance which is nonpoisonous to pearl oysters and less rejection than calcium carbonate crystals. Examples of the organic substance are cell-adhesive proteins such as collagen, fibronectin, or fetuins. One of these substances is dissolved in a solvent and the nuclei are coated with the solution on their surfaces. The coated nuclei are used to effect pearl culture whereby the number or total weight of the peals obtained can be increased.
