PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency for KANJI (Chinese character) selection by displaying the KANJI having the priority following the KANJI that is already displayed through the display selection carried out the next candidate key when the selection is given to the homophones in the KANA (Japanese syllabary)- KANJI conversion. CONSTITUTION:When ''KOKI'' is fed in KANA by a character key of a keyboard 1, a control part 2 selects KANJI having the highest priority out of a dictionary memory 4 and displays it. If the selected KANJI is not coincident with the desired one, the next candidate key is pushed in a priority mode. Thus the KANJI having the second highest priority is displayed. In such a way, the next candidate key is pushed four tiems more to obtain the desired KANJI. Then the selection in the priority mode is given up to switch the operation to a display selection mode. Thus the KANJI having numbers capable of displaying are displayed in the homophone display area of a screen at and after the KANJI having the priority following that of the KANJI which is already displayed by the next candidata key.
